«Une deuxième tête» retirée du crâne d’un bébé
Une mère afghane avait donné naissance cet été à des jumelles dont l’une, nommée Asree Gul (Nouvelle Fleur), avait été admise dans un hôpital de Jalalabad, grande ville de l’est afghan, pour une anomalie.
«Elle avait une deuxième tête attachée sur le crâne. Nous l’avons donc enlevée», a expliqué à l’AFP le chirurgien en chef de l’hôpital de Jalalabad, Ahmad Obaid Mojadidi, une semaine après cette opération décrite comme la plus sophistiquée jamais pratiquée dans la région.
Si l’ablation s’est bien déroulée, l’état de santé du nourrisson reste préoccupant, a ajouté le Dr Mojadidi.
«Les médecins lui ont sauvé la vie, je les en remercie», a dit à l’AFP Nematullah, le père d’Asree Gul, qui comme nombre d’Afghans n’utilise qu’un seul nom.
Déchiré par trois décennies de guerre, l’Afghanistan souffre d’un manque important d’infrastructures médicales. Les dizaines de milliards de dollars d’aide humanitaire investis dans le pays après la chute des talibans en 2001 ont toutefois permis d’ouvrir ou de moderniser de nombreux hôpitaux et cliniques.
